Project YES Concert

For the first time in 11 years, Project YES, which I founded 12 years ago to address the teens-at-risk issue, is running a major fundraising event – a concert featuring Chazzan Helfgot and Avrohom Fried.

The concert will take place the Sunday evening after Succos, October 26th in The Jazz at Lincoln Center. There are only 1,100 seats in the concert hall, and it promises to be an elegant and enjoyable evening.

Please click here or call Project YES at: (718)758-3131 x106 for information about becoming one of our sponsors or to purchase tickets.

About Project Y.E.S.

Project YES is an evolving program which strives to meet the needs of our children, families, and educators in these challenging times.

In 1996, we began by offering job placements and career counseling to teens who were out of school. Shortly thereafter we developed an innovative volunteer teen-mentoring program, which has changed the lives of countless children in our communities. A key component of our program is the training – and ongoing supervision – of our volunteers, by our experienced mental health professionals.

Over time, we came to realize that the parents of at-risk children have as great a need for a “lifeline” as their children do. Additionally, the research we had done of successful mentoring programs serving the general population, led us to develop our parent-mentoring program which provides highly trained volunteers to be parent coaches for a twelve week period – improving the entire parent/child dynamic in hundreds of homes.

In 2005, responding to many requests from mechanchim and educators across North America, we introduced our KESHER School Program where we provide an onsite clinician to enrolled schools, working one-on-one with the teachers and school heads, to effectively reach out to challenged students. In a relatively short time, our KESHER program has added an entirely new dimension to the teaching experience, in more than twenty schools in four states – helping thousands of children.

While we are committed to continuing the programs we are currently running; we are simultaneously exploring diverse and creative use of the internet to assist the parents who turn to us for help. We have already created:

• An online referral section which shares information regarding services and agencies that offer assistance to parents of at-risk teens along the continuum of factors that affect children’s quality of life and educational success.

• A registry of mainstream schools as well as alternative placements for children, who are not making it in ‘regular’ mainstream school settings.

• A comprehensive list of contemporary parenting FAQ’s with links to my online materials and those of other parenting professionals, to assist parents and educators in coping with common child-raising concerns.

Additionally, we are at the cusp of expanding our current internet project – our “People Helping People” program where we use our parent forums – which is basically a digital version of a communal bulletin board – to allow our readers to pose questions on parenting, to a panel of professionals and lay people, who bring a broad range of life experiences to our communal discussion.

We are also exploring the possibility of developing a ‘teen section’ on the website – where teenagers can email or text questions to a panel of chinuch and parenting experts confidentially.
