Congruence
By: Rabbi Yakov Horowitz
Nearly a month ago, in a post titled Hot Spot, we asked our readers to inform us of their preferred mode of communication from our Project YES parenting division regarding the plethora of issues related to technology and the Internet. We asked you to choose between the written word, interactive forums or recorded lectures.
It is a sign of the times, and a powerful reminder of how we consume media content, that over 90% of the respondents asked for articles, and many readers were gracious enough to share the reasoning behind their choice – namely that the written word can easily be reviewed on your tablets or smart phones at your convenience.
However, none of you had any suggestions on how to help me find the time to write. With that in mind, and with the understanding that I will do my best to commit thoughts to paper (or fingers to iPad), here is a link to an interview on the Zev Brenner show that ran this past Monday.
The first few minutes are on summer safety with the remainder devoted to the critical matter of congruence – which is how to craft a theme/hashkafa/message for your family that is congruent with your own deeply-held feelings on the matter of technology, and in line with the theme/hashkafa/messages that your children are hearing at school and shul.
I hope you find this helpful.
Best wishes for a Gutten Shabbos,
Yakov
