The Gift of Time
Although the Torah notes three cardinal sins committed by the people in Noach's generation, "chamas" or robbery is listed as the final straw that sealed their fate. This, despite the fact that the other 2 aveiros (sins) of idolatry and immorality are capital crimes and robbery is not. (see Rashi Bereshis 6:11-13 for the generally accepted understanding of these Pesukim).
Our rebbi, Rav Gedalia Schorr zt”l, in his sefer "Ohr Gedalyahu" offers an alternative explanation -- that the "robbery" noted there refers to the overarching sin of that generation of squandering the gift of time and potential given to them by Hashem. This insight also sheds light on why the people born after the Mabul had far shorter life spans than those born earlier. .
