T.A.F.K.I.D. (Torah Alliance Of Families Of Kids With Disabilities)
Tafkid is a non for profit organization comprised of families whose children have a variety of special needs. When a child is diagnosed with a disability, it is crucial that the entire family unit feels well informed and supported. From these needs, TAFKID was born, TAFKID provides families with support services, advocacy and referral services.
Services:
Project Advocate is a program designed to advise families of their rights on issues of their child's education and to assist in dealing with the New York City Board of Education. Individual parents, specially trained, guide parents in need, step by step, through the process-from evaluations and IEPs through accompanying them to CSE meetings and hearings.
TAFKID's tape project sends audio and video tapes of previous lectures world wide. TAFKID has published four collections of poetry and literature written by parents through the "New York Committee on Special Education process."
